"Patterns"  

Well naturally when a vintage Pyrex collecting junkie hears the word "patterns" she's going to think of Pyrex patterns.  I started collecting about a year ago, partly because I love the bright and fun colors and patterns but mostly because it was something I could dig for at my goodwill and yard sale stops which is my idea of fun.  It's becoming more and more difficult to find these treasures and most thrift shops have caught on that some of these are highly collectible and can go for crazy $ on ebay so even the beat up and faded one's are priced too high.  All of my pieces have come from thrift/estate/yard sales. I get so giddy when I find a piece in good shape that I have wanted for a deal!  I use some, display some, plan on selling some...so I can buy more.  I'm not a hoarder!  I just love the hunt and how pretty they look when on display like this.

August Break Day 1

This time around the August Break host has provided some daily photo prompts.
You can choose to ignore them or let them spark an idea for your daily photo.  I love that about this project.  

There are no rules, no pressure, it's just about taking a moment each day to savor something about your day.  

Summer is flying by and I want to pump the breaks before it's over.  

Today's prompt was "Lunch" and since mine was full of summer freshness and color I decided to roll with it.

Remember The August Break?  Well the party is still kickin and I'm going to do my best to pop in and dance a jig whenever I can.  I will probably cheat and post some pics from the trip so my blog doesn't become a boring flood of photos of my feet on the coffee table.  Let's face it, I work all day and it's 100 + degrees out side so getting out to shoot/load/edit/post a photo a day is not likely.  But I will do what I can!  Join me?

Night Swim

It was so hot last weekend, these kids lived in the pool.  I grabbed my camera when the pool light went on.  I really liked these underwater shots.  I want an underwater housing for my camera, but those cost more than my camera does!  So I will just run along the side lines and chase after these two while they live like fishies.

And yes....he's swimming in his hulk shorts.

This has been the summer of "hulk shorts."

He even wears them under his PJ's so he can "hulk out" in the morning.  I want to remember this in 15 years.

It's been a really fantastic month and I very much enjoyed participating in the August Break. My last picture was taken this weekend when after I noticed he'd been in the bathroom a little too long and it was a little too quiet I peeked in to find him missing. Actually hiding in the laundry basket. He cracks me up!




September is tomorrow!

August Break Day 30

Today has been a day of calling out sick, sleeping in late, Dayquil, lots of H2o, Puffs galore, Gossip Girl episodes on netflix, OJ, and more dayquil. I thought we'd made it through summer with out a cold but alas...it snuck up on us and it's a doozey! I have to kick this thing before we go camping this weekend so I'm doing everything I know to do to ensure it's a short lived illness. So this has been my nest of illness for most of the day. I did get a nice surprise this morning when one of my photos was featured on the Mortal Muses blog. :)

August Break Day's 27-29

Ugh Monday. E is home from school today with a cold and my throat is screaming so I'm next. The down side to sending him to school. At least we have the memory of lots of laughs and these perfect kabobs from this weekend to take us through today. I'll see if I can't turn things around and turn it into a fun day of fighting colds!

August Break 25 & 26

Ahhhh weekend. It's only Friday afternoon and already you've been so good to me! Catching up with dear friends, eating delicious food (not on my diet,) an exciting lesson in the wonders of our local library for E followed by a quick nap snuggled up in his bed, and finally a fun discovery on my camera. I admit. I'm pretty green when it comes to most of the features on this thing. I was trying to get my remote to work on it to take a selfie since I actually did my hair and make up today and discovered the Multiple Exposure option. HELLO FUN! :)





Once E wakes up from his nap and Devin swings by after work it'll be time to jump in the pool. It's hot out today and I'm milking every last minute of summer till she takes off leaving me longing for her return. Happy weekend all!

August Break Day 24

I shot these last night with my new lens. I really can't wait to take it somewhere crowded, full of people or animals I can capture with out their knowledge. For now we're just getting to know one another. This trike was something I snatched up from Devin's folks discard pile when they moved. We used to have two of these at the church when I was a kid and I remember riding them till I was way too big and had no business being on them. I liked both of these shots for different reasons and processed them in totally different styles but couldn't choose one to post so... I'm posting both. One with a nostalgic and vintage feel, one with a gritty feel focusing on the texture. Just another aspect to my eclectic taste. Happy Wednesday!
