In a funk

So this weekend I had a photo shoot booked on Fri for a family of 5, I mentioned that one in an earlier post and expressed my concern since I've never done a photo shoot with that many subjects before. Unfortunately the rain came Friday afternoon and didn't leave till this morning. I tried to shoot the three girls (9 months, 2, and 4 year old) in their bed rooms but the lack of light and lack of interest they had in me proved to be too much for this inexperienced photographer to overcome. I got a few cute pictures but overall I was just not happy with the outcome so thankfully we've agreed to re shoot on a day with some sun. Then Saturday evening my dear friends mother was getting married in a lovely Japanese tea garden and had asked me to be the photographer. Again the rain didn't let up for one moment and I have no protection for my camera for such an issue. I tried, I truly did, but I don't have the tools or knowledge to shoot great pictures indoors. I feel horrible, like a total failure. Perhaps it's the time of the month and the hormones that come with it thats causing me to be so down about both of these shoots but it's really got me in a funk and I can't seem to shake it.

  1. Your photography is beautiful! Everyone has those moments (well, I seem to have them quite a lot!) and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your captures.

Thank you so much for visiting today - so happy it led me to your lovely blog! ABC has slowed down for me, but I'm *still* catching up on visiting as many ABreakers' blogs as I can. :)

  3. You are doing the right thing doing a reshoot with more sun! I would have done the same thing. I only use natural light too. That's a shame about the wedding -- I Saran wrap the crap out of my camera when I shoot in the rain. I wish I had an umbrella holder like Puff Daddy -- that would be best.

  4. shooting indoors without an external flash is almost impossible....
you can up your ISO and purposely overexpose your shots and shoot on the lowest aperture you have, but a flash really is needed....

i don't do flash photography.....yet. i might have to one of these days, though.

  5. Saran Wrap. I didn't think about that! Genius! I was wishing for an umbrella holder for sure. Thanks for the tips and words of encouragement ladies. Lesson learned, if it's raining...reschedule.

  6. Remember, even the most talented concert pianist needs to practice her concertos! You're not gonna come out batting 100%. You have lots to learn on this journey and how you face diversity is what is going to make your work shine brighter. And girl, it is already radiant - so keep your head up and keep shooting!

And I know friends are touched that you go out of your way to find beauty in their face, their kids, their relationships. I am always posing in the mirror cuz of you - working on my photo shoot poses! Don't you dare slow down now. You are just scratching the surface of your talent! Miles to go babe!

  8. I agree with everyone. YOu did the right thing by rescheduling the shoot.
I admit I am terrible at indoor night shots, I don't like flash, but I know you can take great shots. Practice. Practice. Practice.

I'm so sorry I didn't tell you what lens I use on my friends wedding post. Its a canon slr 17-40 mm f/1.4 lens.

    Saran wrap is genius.

Keep it up. Can't wait to see pics.

  9. Oh, I'm so sorry! Nasty string of bad luck, but the sun will shine again, and you WILL get back out there! Don't know how helpful this is, but when it rains, I use a large plastic trash bag. And then of course, I still spend all of my time worrying that the camera will still get wet!
