FIREWORKS!

Fireworks are pretty much the best part about celebrating our Countries birthday. My boy is still pretty cautious about them and prefers to watch them from a safe distance, usually inside the house, yet he's completely awed and fascinated by them too. Which is good. Because I am like a 5 year old kid when the big light show begins complete with gaping mouth and "oooooooooo's" and "ahhhhhhhhh's."

The heat is in full effect here. 100+ temps are being reached and all I want to do is hit the pool or eat ice cream. Hot weather, hot fireworks, hot dogs... should be a smokin hot 4th of July! Hence the above shot of my boy manning the fire lane. :)

Day 30

Day 30: Self Portrait

WHEW! It's a mixture of sadness, pride, gratitude, and relief as I finish this last post of the 30 day challenge. It's been a big commitment and more work than I anticipated but as with most things...totally WORTH IT! I have to say thank you to each and every one of the participants, and a special thank you to Caroline for recruiting most of you. ;) Your talent and creativity has been such an inspiration. OK...I'm starting to sound like I'm giving an Oscar speech so I'll wrap it up and just say thank you so much for playing with me! I hope if/when I do this again you'll all join me for another round.

I love that the last post is a self portrait because I think for quite a few of us this is an area we are most afraid to venture in, and yet what stunning photographs! I love seeing the beautiful faces of these talented ladies (and man...thank you baby for being supportive!)

I took Elijah on a walk to the park for my shots this eve. I look a hot mess but at least I slapped on a lil make up for it. lol. I love that this neighborhood has so many parks close by. Great for kids and photographers alike.

On another note:

I came accross this blog post today and was once again blown away by this young man. He's so talented! And he put into words exactly how I feel about summer. Seems like I've been waiting for the warm weather to hit like a kid before Christmas morning and now that it's here I'm trying to cram in all of the summer fun and memory making I can before the chill of fall hits. Summer took so long to get here, I hope she stays a while.

Drippy, Creamy, Sticky, Sweet

Day 28

Day 28: Flowers

I actually took this photo yesterday during our railroad tracks walk. The bright purple was calling me to take a few shots and I'm glad it did. BECAUSE IT'S POURING RAIN HERE! Weird. Straight up Weird. And if my nose wasn't 90% blocked by the stupid cold I've got (summer colds seriously blow) I could probably smell the sweet fragrance coming from all of these photos. Sorry I'm in a bit of a funk but rain and colds are for November...not June.

The bright colors are brightening my day though, really. So thank you. :)

Tomorrow is Day 29: Black and White. WOO HOO! I love me some black and white. Textures, contrast, mood... I've been looking forward to this one!

Slice of Life

For any of you getting a little bummed out (like I am) to see this 30 day photography challenge draw to a close I have a remedy! If you're not already on flickr you'll need to sign up in order to take the pill I'm prescribing, but it's well worth it. Flickr is free (till you reach the limit of storage then it costs but it's pretty cheap.) I belong to several different groups on Flickr that offer monthly, weekly, some even daily themes for photos you can take and share. One in particular I've been asked to help moderate while the group admin Darrah Parker takes a little break to have her first child. The group is called Slice of Life Tuesday and each Tuesday she announces a new theme for the week. Just a suggestion for you to keep the camera in your hand. Looking forward to your flower shots from today! :)

Day 27

Day 27: From a distance

This one was a bit of a challenge for me. Not only do I have limited focus length with my lenses but as I've already mentioned...I like close ups. My son and I took a little walk over to the RR tracks for today's shot. The train came to both of our delight. He blew his horn at us too...squeal!
