Mom's jewlery box

Took a nap this afternoon so I didn't get out to take pictures. The nap was not optional. Something about Sunday afternoons my body requires a nap, and I'm thankful for it. I did manage to get the camera out and find something in the house of interest. I love the vintage look of what I find in my mom's jewlery box, hope you do too.

Saturday's fly by

Got up early because my little man (who still manages to sleep in my bed from around 3am till wake up time) had a bad dream and woke up crying around 6:45am. Why this had to happen on a Saturday...no words. I wasn't able to calm him down before the fragile time frame of getting him back to sleep was over so it was an early start Satruday. We had to get up and get ready for a 10 am Bday party for a 5 year old at the dreaded Chuck-E-Cheese facility. For those of you not familiar with this establishment picture 65 children ages ranging from 1-8 years old running around in a panic to play as many pointless video and carnival games as possible in the quest to earn fists full of tickets they can later turn in for cheap toys and stale candy once thier parents have run out of patience and are dragging them by the hair insisting it's time to turn in the tickets and go home. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, maybe it's more like 50 kids. Either way this place gives me mini panic attacks and I'm a relatively calm and laid back person. Part of the problem is my child is too young to venture off into this field of chaos with out my help so I'm forced to follow him through the maze of blinking lights and running midgets counting how many tokens we have left so I know just how long the torture will last. I survived the birthday party with out losing it and actually enjoyed a few moments with my precious boy when he wasn't crying because the game/ride was over. I then went home to write another chapter in my new found hobby, cooking. I've never been much of a cook but now that I'm getting fresh veggies delivered to my door (more on that another day,) most of which I've never eaten much less cooked with, I'm being challenged to be adventurous. Made some veggie and ricotta filled pasta shells that turned out ok. Nothing I'll do again but they are edible. Next it was off to the Kings basketball game. Long story short the date I'd planned on having when I purchased the tickets was no longer invited so I managed to find one friend that was actually free on Sat night last min and the lovely Claire joined me for the game. I don't know Claire very well, we have a mutual friend and have actually only spent time together a handfull of times but she is a no nonesense, sassy girl and I like those kinds. We had a good time, my team continues to suck, I drank two high priced beers and bought my son a mini basketball because I spoil him. It's been a busy day, Saturdays always seem to just fly by with all I pack into them. Looking forward to what I hope to be a lazy and relaxing Sunday tomorrow. Perhaps I'll even get my camera out I've been so inspired lately from the blogs I've been following. Night.

Wasted time

The sun has come out from hiding and I'm stuck in this grey cubicle. The awesome note about the day is I'm able to get onto blogspot from work. Somehow they missed this site in the long list of websites that are blocked from our viewing pleasure here. So I've been following trails and paths (also known as links) to all kinds of fantastic blog's with amazing pictures that are inspiring me to jump up out of this seat, grab my camera, and make some beautiful pictures of my own! But alas... I've got to earn a paycheck....so here I sit. At least my DRIOD has a camera, let's see if I can make a little magic with it and the subjects I find in my cubicle.

Random thoughts:

1) This lotion is fantastic, it smells amazing and fixes the damage washing my hands 10 times a day with our work soap creates.

2) "Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is truly a friend."

3) Tonight I will cook baby bok choy for the first time. Hope I like it.

Snow Trip

Another B-day behind me. Feeling no different at 33 as expected. I made great plans to ensure I had a wonderful birthday; a day of pampering, dinner and drinks with friends, then headed to the snow with my family for the rest of the weekend. There was SO MUCH snow! I can't remember a time I've ever been in such a winter wonderland. It always surprises me just how quiet and peacefull everything is when insulated with white fluffy snow. My son and I made a snow man and giggled together as we shot down the snow hills on the plastic disc. What consistently caught my eye and ensured I spent some time with my camera in hand (which scared me a bit with the snow fall) were the HUGE icicles hanging from every rooftop in sight. A whole lot of beauty this valley girl doesn't see often. Can't wait to head back!

OK Ladies...let's do this!

Plus size models are all the rage, haven't you heard? I want to support and promote this trend and hope and pray the pressures for every American girl to be a size 2 can be challenged to the point of extinction! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and I for one think women that have a soft and curvy figure look more feminine that the skeleton's we usually see in our fashion mags. Who's with me? I've got a brand new lens I'm dying to try out... ;)

New Born Shoot

Did my first new born photoshoot today. I'm SO not professional, I'm armed with a nikon D40 and an SB-600 flash....thats it. I own no back grounds, lighting, tri-pod, or additional lenses, YET. But I make due and I don't charge a fee so all this is getting experience and enjoying myself.
My dear friend Amy became a mother on the 5th, her beautiful baby boy Noah was a wonderful model. We tried to start the shoot off with him awake but as most new borns do he only wanted to spend waking hours attatched to mama's boob. So after a quick feeding he was knocked out and a MUCH more cooperative model. Of course once we decided to brave the naked baby pics with out a diaper we payed the price, good thing we saved those for last because the "backdrop" was soaked. This will be the first of many shoots with precious little Noah.

P.S. I love you

I rented the movie "P.S I Love You," The one with Hilary Swank. I knew the jist of the story line and that it was going to make me cry so although it's been recommended to me by a few people it took me a while to finally watch it. I sort of have to be in the mood for a movie I know is going to make me cry, that mood doesn't happen often. Especially having just gone through yet another break up and facing 33 single, a sad love story wasn't on the top of my list. BUT, I rented it since there wasn't much else on the blockbuster wall I hadn't already seen. Man, talk about a sobfest! Such a great movie, great casting, acting, story, all of it was really good. I held my breath through a few parts so my sobs wouldn't distract my mom from the movie. I want a love like that, I think we all do, some of us are even lucky enough to have it. To have it and lose it...now that would be a true test of someone's strength. My eyes are puffy from crying.

Baby blogger

So I've never done this before. The world of blogging is new to me, kept tabs on a few friends via thier blogs so I figured I'd give it a shot too.
I should be going to sleep right now, Lord knows my eyes are heavy enough...all the signs are there that it's time. Tomorrow is Friday and it's been a long, slow, tedious week. Trying to get back on track with diet/work out routine after the holiday damage is never a fun process. I'm also anticipating the end of next week since my birthday is on Friday so I'm sure next work week will continue the snails pace this one was married to. Not that I'm excited about turning 33. Not at all. "Still single at 33" seems to be the theme running through my mind as I approach this one. But I've made plans to pamper myself, spend time with friends, and polish off the weekend in the snow with my folks and my 2 1/2 year old son. All of which I expect to be full of fun, laughter, love, and memories. So I'll sign off this, my first post, by saying here's to a good nights sleep and a relaxing weekend for all....wait that sounds more like a toast and I have no glass. Oh never mind. Good night!
